Tequila is our Spirit Of The Month and limes are in season so it’s a perfect storm for Margarita time!
We will share our deliciously divine recipe but first, what is the secret to making THE BEST Margarita?
The secret is all in proportions and getting the balance of ingredients juuuuust right. It can definitely be the difference between a good margarita and a bad one.
45ml Tequila
15ml Cointreau (not Triple Sec)
30ml Fresh Lime Juice
Salt for the rim of the glass
Shake all ingredients with cracked ice in a cocktail shaker until it’s frosty on the outside. Taste to ensure the balance of flavours are right (some limes can be more sour than others). If all good, then strain into a chilled cocktail glass with salted rim and…….enjoy!
Side Notes:
Tequila
Since Tequila is the principle ingredient, its worth splurging on the good stuff. Look for “100% De Agave” on your label. If it isn’t there, 49% of your spirit is actually made from fermented cane sugar. Also don’t be put off by “Gold” Tequila, it actually has a mellower (and in our opinion much preferred) flavour then it’s “Silver” counterpart.
Triple Sec V Cointreau
Our vote here is definitely to use Cointreau. Triple Sec is a liqueur made from the skins of orange and can range from 15-30% depending on the brand. Cointreau is a proprietary brand and is made up of sweet and bitter orange skins and sits around the 40% alcohol content. It will give a more complex and tastier orange note to your drink. So again, don’t be stingy and buy the good stuff.
Frozen or Straight Up?
If you have gone to all the trouble in using the best products for your drink, then you owe it to yourself to shake it over ice rather than toss it in a blender. A frozen Margarita will have a diluted taste and the ice will actually numb your tongue so you wont be able to taste the amazingness you have just created!
So there you have it – you are now a bonafide Margarita expert 😉
